I can think of three ways that small stuff is a big deal, how about you?
In last week’s post, Lost in the Small Stuff, PattiAnn acknowledged the deep truth of this statement:
Life is lived mostly in the small stuff.

Her post struck a chord with me and I’m compelled to play it out for you this week.
Don’t Sweat (Some) Small Stuff
Rather than allowing hurts and setbacks to deter us, it’s certainly true that we do well to remember Richard Carlson’s mantra, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” And also his corollary, “It’s all small stuff.” We need to let go of those things that hurt and hold us back; we need to find a way to move on because dwelling on the negative just drags us down. Carlton’s mantra can help in the process. (And thanks to one of our readers, Innes, for reminding me about the importance of this now-a-cliché!)
But Do Sweat These!
But, oh how I miss the small stuff of my life-shared-with-my-late-husband. (There’s soooooooooo much irony in that “term’ – you see, I was always the late one; he was always the ON-TIME one.) My days are filled with nostalgic reminders of small stuff moments:
- At church the man in front of me put his hand on his wife’s shoulder… and I remembered how good that gentle touch felt. Such a small, simple, loving gesture. Okay, the fantasy goes off track here… Continue reading » The “Yes… Damn Effect” Strikes Again!

Have you ever agreed to do something out in the future and when the time came, regretted it?
Warning: Dates in Calendar are closer than they appear.
— Unknown
I’m looking at this week’s calendar and wondering — What was I thinking when I put THAT on my calendar??? It seemed like a good idea at the time. But today I realize that my week is full-up and my earlier “Yes” has morphed into “Damn! Why’d I do that???” And of course, now it’s too late, yet somehow I must make good on my promise to do whatever it is I said I’d do. Sound familiar? Do you do that too?
Why is it easier to agree to do something at a future date?
Well, Gal Zauberman of the Wharton School researched that question and he concluded Continue reading » The “Yes… Damn!” Effect: What Was I Thinking???
