Feel the wobble? Is something important about to topple?
I think God’s going to come down and pull civilization over for speeding.
— Steven Wright
Sometimes we overdo. Sometimes we have too many plates spinning, too many demands stuffed into too little time and, the next thing we know, we’ve slipped into mindless busyness and something important is on the verge of toppling. Maybe we got into the swing of something, doing and doing until we lapsed into a workaholic-trance. Maybe the abyss of our To-Do-List’s administrivia kept us working, working working. Perhaps deadlines loomed large… Or, perhaps we actually fell under the thrall of an awesome condition known as Flow:
Flow is being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz.
— Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
But, regardless of what’s brought us to this brink, we owe it to ourselves to intervene before something important takes a topple! Continue reading » Life Lessons 101: Topple Proofing

Wouldn’t it be grand to have a minion or two at your beck and call?
Awhile back my niece-in-law, Rikki remarked on facebook, “Minions – I need some…” And I chimed in, “me too!” But just to be sure that I understood the meaning of the word, I checked it out:
A minion is a follower devoted to serving his master relentlessly.
Origin of MINION: Middle French – mignon darling. First Known Use: circa 1500
In my last post I grumbled over trolls that in interrupt our lives with pain and worry… yet today I’m minion-hunting. That’s because I’m of the opinion that Continue reading » Minions, I Need Minions!

You cannot prevent the birds of sadness from passing over your head, but you can prevent their making a nest in your hair.
— Chinese Proverb
We’ve finally gotten everyone in this great big mess around my father’s house to agree that it really is our house. As they say in Fiddler on the Roof, “Wonder of wonder, miracle of miracles.” Our next step, once the title is insurable, is to list it. Because it’s been listed before, there are pictures online of how it looks now. It is simply GORGEOUS!
It makes me so sad. This is the house my mother would have loved. For her entire married life, she never had a Continue reading » Sadness as Motivation

The question is not what you look at, but what you see.
— Henry David Thoreau
It’s been a week since the last big stock market crash. How was your week? The one thing you can say for these big galumping moves is that after a while they’re almost boring. If you haven’t figured it out by now, I can give it to you on great authority that the best thing for your peace of mind is to not watch. Watching the market on these days is sure to put you on the funny farm.
There’s no rhyme or reason to it. You see, it’s all done with Continue reading » Joy Everywhere!

No matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.
— Brene Brown
For years, I have struggled with getting everything done that needs to get done. Several years ago, I worked with a woman who had four children. She never could get caught up and felt guilty all the time. There just wasn’t enough time to take the kids to school, work, pick them up and take them to softball or football or cheerleading practice, then fix dinner, clean up, help with homework, put them to bed and then fall into bed herself. She wasn’t a single mom, but these were all her responsibility.
Her husband kept complaining because he felt that she didn’t really take building her business seriously. Really?!!! Exactly when was she going to get around to Continue reading » What Makes You and Me Enough?
