In a Bad Mood? – Try These Five Steps to Feel Better

I have two moods. One is Roy, rollicking Roy, the wild ride of a mood. And Pam, sediment Pam, who stands on the shore and sobs… Sometimes the tide is in, sometimes it’s out.

— Carrie Fisher

Moods.  We all have them.  They can be uplifting and encouraging.  They can be reals downers, too.

Moods are one of the many factors that can assist us in achieving our 2013 goals… or they can get in the way.

More than once, I’ve made decisions based on where I am (how I feel) vs. where I want to go (what I want to accomplish).  No matter how motivating the goal was when I set it, if I’m feeling crummy – physically or emotionally –  I usually choose something that will Continue reading » In a Bad Mood? – Try These Five Steps to Feel Better

Old age is no place for sissies.

— Bette Davis

Have you noticed?  Every field of endeavor has a list of things that we need to do in order to be living correctly.  Finance, health, career, parenting.  If you look, you can find at least one list of the “correct” way to invest, be healthy, create a wonderful and fulfilling career, and best of all, how to raise perfect children.  To make sure that you have all the options, there’s never just one approach.  There are conflicting approaches.  Then, if something isn’t working the way you want, you can decide that you’ve just been Continue reading » How to Take Back Control of Your Life

How to Whack Your Way Out of the Weeds

Do you, every once in a while, feel overwhelmed by ALL you have to do? If so, take heed – managing your stress can save your sanity!

In the restaurant industry, servers and cooks who cannot keep up with customer demands are “weeded.”

1) To have too much to do. 2) To not be able to keep up or accomplish all the tasks set before you. 3) A feeling or act of being behind in one’s work. 4) A very bad place. i.e. “I have too many tables, I’m very weeded!” or “No hands I’m weeded up bad” or “I’m so deep in the weeds I can’t see the light!”

Life in the Weeds

At this moment I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed.  Too much to do, not enough time; priorities piled on priorities; and then, along comes something else – a very important something – and, TA DA! – I’m weeded… with no weed-whacker in sight.

What to do?  Well at first I simply chant an old mandra: I am richly blessed… But, truth be told, it doesn’t help much.  So, in desperation I surf the web for OPs’ solutions. And find good ideas from Other People that will help me keep my sanity intact – I share them here with you in the hopes they may Continue reading » How to Whack Your Way Out of the Weeds

How I Find Hope

You know you’ve read a good book when you turn the last page and feel a little as if you have lost a friend.

— Paul Sweeney

I love to read!  I seldom go anywhere without a book.  If I’m out shopping, I’ll usually have a book in my purse and when I get worn out from too much, I’ll take a break.  I’ll grab a soda and sit and read for a while.  After a few minutes or a few pages, my energy returns and I’m back up and moving.  I’ve even been known to Continue reading » How I Find Hope

Are you up for a quest for excellence?

Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.

— Pat Riley

In my last post, Purple Squirrel Hunting, I tendered the opinion that perfection is an impossible dream. And even though I also proffered the idea that settling could be a viable alternative strategy, many people consider settling a step backward.  Thats because we often assume that settling means compromising our Continue reading » Quest for Excellence aka Purple Squirrel Hunt, Pt. 2
