Forget love, I’d rather fall in chocolate.

It seems that in my life, these last few weeks have had a theme to them. We are not our feelings! It seems strange to say, but it is true.
Just like Ellie said in yesterday’s post, “It’s amazingly easy to think that my view of the world is the only view – that my fishbowl IS reality, that my ‘story’ is THE story.” It is also amazingly easy to think that my feelings are me, that they reflect reality. My feelings are my reaction to my “story” in this moment.
Our Common Myth
Because feelings and story reinforce each other, we have a tendency to get caught up in what we’re feeling. If we “feel good” then all must be Continue reading » Feeling Good is Closer Than You Think

How are those resolutions going? Do you, like me, need a fresh start, a new beginning in order to persist in reaching your goals?
Life never presents us with anything which may not be looked upon as a fresh starting point, no less than as a termination.

Monday Morning
It’s Monday morning and I’m dressed, ready to go out for my walk – yet here I am, writing this post instead. Lately it’s been a challenge to get myself out for my morning walk. And an even tougher task to eat in ways that cause me to shed pounds.
Not too long ago I was cruising along doing both with ease. No such luck now. I can come up with every excuse in the book for not going out first thing in the morning. And my sweet-tooth plagues me.
This has GOT to turn around. Now would be a good time. I need a fresh start at this losing weight and getting fit stuff. I’m barely holding my own here. And it’s waaaaaay too soon to be in maintenance mode.
Could writing this post serve as Continue reading » Begin Again

If it’s not fun, you’re not doing it right.

Boy, have we been having fun! Malibu, the new kitten, put on 9 ounces in the week between vet visits. Considering that when we weighed him the first time he was 1 pound 5 ounces, that’s an amazing 43% weight gain – the healthy kind. He has been here about two weeks and he is the most spoiled kitty I’ve ever seen – and, trust me, I’ve seen some SPOILED kitties.
Every morning, after my prayerful meditation, I go into my office (also known as Malibu’s room) and before I even get to his crate, he is purring. What a wonderful way to start the day! He is so happy to see me! To be honest, this is because Continue reading » Having Fun is Essential to Resistance

It’s the constant and determined effort that breaks down all resistance, sweeps away all obstacles.

Lately, I’ve “wanted” to become more fit. I say “wanted” because I know what I need to do and I just don’t want to do what it takes. This is a type of resistance. It is one of my most consistent forms of resistance. I want to lose weight as long as I don’t have to:
- Give up chocolate
- Find time to exercise more
- Make any major changes in my routine
Resistance, in general terms, is a measure of opposition.
Electrically – it is the measure of opposition to passing the current through an object. If you’re trying to insulate something, resistance is good. If you’re trying to move power from Point A to Point B, resistance is bad.
Geologically – it is the measure of the ability of a mineral to withstand erosive factors. If you’re creating the Grand Canyon, you want, and have, minerals that do not withstand erosion by wind and water.
Psychologically – it is when we either Continue reading » Resistance is Essential

Last night I caught a quick segment of the TV show Dancing with the Stars. It struck me, as I watched Shawn & Mark’s Jive – waaaaaay too many Polka Dots! Too many, too many. Exuberant dancing yes. But too many polka dots!
And it got me to thinking: how often do we do too much of what we’re good at JUST BECAUSE we are good at it??? I teach a management class to graduating university seniors and I cite a French company that is preparing its managers to lead globally – to work in other countries and be successful – by helping them see the line they cross when using their strengths (whatever they may be) too much.
