When things don’t seem quite right, they probably aren’t… During my corporate manager job-phase, I had some stylish pumps stretched to fit my wide feet and then gleefully wore them to work the next day. All morning long, I confided to my friends who were exclaiming over my pretty new shoes, “it’s really weird, one shoe feels great and the other one hurts.”
About 2 pm, not thinking, I reached down, took off the hurting shoe and reached inside. And I found the shoemaker’s last – a quarter inch thick leather insert – still in the shoe! No wonder one shoe hurt and one shoe didn’t!
These days, at least four mornings a week – more if we can get the lead out – my husband and I go for a walk. With feigned optimism, we subscribe to the popular notion that 10,000 steps a day is a worthy goal, worthy but elusive and, so far unattained. We get it that this regular exercise makes us stronger, bolsters our resilience, improves our balance and oh so many other important benefits! But then we grumble because, in our haste to get the walk started (and over with, truth be told), we come downstairs without some essential piece of equipment – keys, cell phone, jacket, whatever. And we HAFTA go back upstairs!@$%%!!!

Today is one of THOSE days. For some reason I woke up in the pits. No reason, just a low day and no sign of sun. Since like everyone else I need to get “stuff” done today, I tried to diagnose the problem. The best I could come up with was a yucky case of the blahs!! I get those when we’ve had too many days of “June Gloom” and today is REALLY gloomy. There’s a slim chance of rain today, but odds are, it’ll just be gray – like ME! Given a choice, what I’d love to do is curl up under a blankie with a book and my faithful dog to keep me warm. If the dog ain’t so faithful, I can fall back to the cat. But today is a work day, so no such luck. What to do…
