Are you one of those got-it-together folks who – unlike Tootles – have their marbles all lined up and ready for play?
Peter Pan: How could you know Tootles?
Thud Butt: He was a Lost Boy.
[Thud Butt takes out a small pouch] These are his marbles. These are his happy thoughts.
[Peter empties out the pouch of marbles into his hand and laughs]
Peter Pan: He really did lose his marbles, didn’t he?
— From the movie Hook
I envy people who seem to have everything all organized and lined up… I myself am often on the verge of losing my marbles – they just keep scattering every which way…
Once upon a time, as I was preparing to go on vacation, I wrote in my journal: Why is it so hard to let go of my everyday life and take a few days off? I was feeling torn in many directions because I wanted to get so much done before I left and I needed to pack but wasn’t sure what to take along…which is why I wrote: Continue reading » On the Verge of Losing My Marbles

If you’re in need of a good belly laugh, this’ll do ya!
Always laugh when you can. It is cheap medicine.
— Lord Byron
According to Steve Wilson, MA, CSP, a psychologist and laugh therapist:
Laughing more could make you healthier, but we don’t know [for sure and] I certainly wouldn’t want people to start laughing more just to avoid dying — because sooner or later, they’ll be disappointed. Sometimes we mis-speak and sometimes we mis-interpret by answering the wrong question and sometimes we simply say exactly the wrong thing. My mother-in-law’s favorite quote – she was a very misunderstood woman – was:
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said,
but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.
And unfortunately, for whatever reason, she was right – people often mis-took her meaning and assumed the worst. My friends were convinced that this dear mother-in-law of mine hated me based upon Continue reading » What I Meant to Say

Ever find yourself short on whimsy just when you need it the most?
In the spirit of friendship, I’m declaring today

In my last post I suggested – no make that advocated – that when we find ourselves getting dragged down by the weight of the world, we could use whimsy as a lifeline back to sanity, resilience and perseverance … and in support of that advocacy, I’m dedicating this particular post as a present to Continue reading » Whimsy Day!
