What is your mirror telling you?
A good mirror is encouraging, giving us a glimpse of our future.

There’s nothing like a bad hair day to crush your resolve… and lately I’ve been entrenched in bad hair days. You see, I’ve been “letting my hair grow longer” until I can decide on a new ’do… You’re probably thinking: Geez, Ellie’s really stuck in the transition hallway – not only can’t she choose a doorway out, she can’t even choose a new hairstyle! A recent Rose is Rose cartoon pretty much tells the Continue reading » Good Futures Hunting

What do you think: Is the process of “self expansion” only a couples’ thing?
There’s no limit possible to the expansion of each one of us.
— Charles M. Schwab
Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of – expanding exponentially! Just kidding folks, only my weight is at risk of exponential expansion and that is a topic for a different post!
I got started on this topic of “self-expansion” after reading a NYTimes.com blog article – my first (rather selfish) curiosity was piqued by the comment “take the quiz below to measure how much it expands your knowledge and makes you Continue reading » Self Expansion???

You become what you think about.

Last week, in her post Trapped in the Clutches of Ambiguity, Ellie reported on a dialogue that she observed between her Left Brain and her Right Brain.
- LeftBrain (LB) – Wait! What street was that? We don’t know where we’re going!
- RightBrain (RB) – Chill, we’ll be fine. I know what I’m doing.
- LB – Where are we? We are so lost! How will we get back?
- RB – Not to worry, I’ve got it covered, really, I DO.
- LB – Turn back now. We’re lost and getting lost-er!
- RB – Shush, I’ve got it… I KNOW how to get back and I know where to turn – what I don’t know is how to explain it. So, if you’ll just be quiet we’ll get there and we could even have some fun doing so!!!
For example, several years ago I was part of the team running an international convention at our local convention center. Having a little time “off”, a friend and I were going to attend a session. I walked out of the staff room and went right. My friend asked where I was going. I told her. She pointed out that it was quicker to go the other direction. My response… only when you know how to get there. I was totally lost unless I used my one known route to everything. Mapquest is a major part of my life.
It reminded me of some many similar conversations that I have in my head. The difference between Ellie and me is that for her, the Right Brain is Continue reading » Who’s In Charge Here?

How will you make the most of your 2011?
We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives… not looking for flaws, but for potential.
— Ellen Goodman
During these early days of 2011 I find myself beguiled by a lingering holiday enchantment:
Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childhood days, recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth, and transport the traveler back to his own fireside and quiet home!
— Charles Dickens
And, under the influence of this post-Christmas haze, I’m walking through Continue reading » Room to Grow

Instant gratification, it’s what we’re all about. Most of us want to be rich or skinny or talented or married or divorced… NOW! Human nature being what it is we don’t like to wait for anything. We know that to lose weight healthily, we need to do it over time, gradually increasing our level of fitness and increasing the healthiness of the foods we eat. But, HECK, now that we’ve made the decision, we want the effect to be as close to instantaneous as possible. When it isn’t, we quickly get discouraged.
Some Things Take Time
As Albert Einstein said, “The only reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen at once.” The key to making time work for you is to have a vision that is so strong that it pulls you towards it every day. Think about it, we don’t have a problem planning for our Continue reading » Success Through Vision
