Last Chance to Savor Summer’s Simple Pleasures

Summer is slip-sliding away – last chance to enjoy its simple pleasures!

To lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time.

— John Lubbock

I just enjoyed the last, sweet chunks of a juicy watermelon – YUM! Why I waited so long to enjoy this simple pleasure is beyond me.  Chalk it up to being a bit oblivious to the passing of the season. But now that I’ve indulged in this sinfully delicious treat I’ve begun to realize that summer is almost gone and all those perfect watermelons with it.

So I’ve made a new, short term and frivolous resolution: before the season’s treats become only a memory, I’m going to Continue reading » Last Chance to Savor Summer’s Simple Pleasures

Empty cupboard

And the Cupboard Was Bare…

Do you ever find yourself staring at bare cupboards when you’re looking for bountifulness?

You must empty a box before you fill it again.

— Irish Sayings

Now surely you’ve known me long enough to know that it’s not likely my cupboards would be or even could literally be bare! Nah, not my cupboards, they’re, what else – cluttered!  And while there might be some of you who would be delighted with empty cupboards like the one in the photo above – my daughter who’s moving soon for instance – I also know that there are some families whose cupboards literally are bare… and I wonder and worry how they and their families cope.

And, at the director’s behest I’ve now stocked my car with a package of fluffy new Continue reading » And the Cupboard Was Bare…

Is your crowd helping you be more resilient?

It’s the lazy days of summer and feeling a bit lazy myself, it’s taken me a little while to figure out that I’m not really going anywhere.  I’m busy enough, but I’m not making progress.  In fact, I feel way too busy and way too unproductive.

Finding What Fits

Just around the corner

You know how you feel when everything fits?  When you head out into the world in the right outfit that fits just right?  It’s like you can do anything, you can take on the world.  There’s bounce in your step.  There’s nothing worse for your confidence than clothes that don’t fit.  Spending your day pulling up your pants or digging your pants out of your ass does not help you exude anything you want to exude.

Sometimes, when we go shopping, we are fooled in the store.  Later we find out that the pants stretch too much after wearing them for an hour, or that they bind in a way they didn’t when we tried them on.  So we stick to those clothes that fit right because they make us feel the best about ourselves.  And sometimes we have to take things back to the store to find the one that fits.

A Break from Responsibility

Tunnels of Time

I’ve made a decision.  I’m going to be irresponsible – at least for a little while.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I just feel stuck.  Life goes on day-to-day, some days good, some not so good.  The interesting thing is that here I am in the middle of this new blog venture, and yet I’m looking for some major change that will make me feel “better.”

Take a short break and consider the following:
