Some of us need inspiration every day.  Like antiperspirant, we need to reapply inspiration every day… or we might start to develop “stinkin’ thinkin’”.

These days it’s harder to avoid stinkin’ thinkin’ and believe that things will be OK.  During the crash, things went bad so quickly that we’ve developed a habit of expecting the worst – even now that things are going better.

I’ve been way too serious this year.  Start focusing on goals and it doesn’t take much to get out of balance.  We get enthusiastic about the promise of the new year we get caught up in the idea of doing it quickly.

  • If we’re going to lose weight, why not lose it right away?  Don’t just go for a 30 minute walk.  Walk for an hour.  Don’t just cut back.  Eliminate all the stuff that contributes to gaining weight… like food.
  • If we’re going to increase our net worth, don’t just increase our savings deduction by 5% or 10%, really ratchet it up.  Never eat out.  Never go to the movies.  Stay home and save, save, save.

Do it all, NOW!

And then we hit the wall also known as burnout.  It’s not even six weeks into the new year and we’ve worn ourselves out with all our good intentions.
