Still waiting for all this rain to stop? Perhaps it’s time for Plan B…
Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass… it’s about learning how to dance in the rain.

I began writing this back on St.Paddy’s Day, a holiday that brings to mind my very Irish Mom who had a penchant for “sayings” that some might call clichés but I called them wee bits of wisdom. This lament of hers comes to mind:
It’s the luck of the Irish…
Sometimes it was said with a long, loud SIGHHH and sometimes with a wicked, jolly and self-satisfied GRINNN… the ambiguity led me to believe that us Irish could count on both bad luck and good luck. No telling what would happen. But, for sure, it happened because Continue reading » Learning to Dance in the Rain

How do you survive the dark days of winter?
The Blahs: A general feeling of discomfort, dissatisfaction, or depression.
— thefreedictionary.com
This morning’s clear skies belie the COLD, raucous, house-shuttering GALE winds that pummel my psyche with dis-ease… “Not a very good morning for you” announces the newscaster on the early morning show… “No shit, Sherlock” retorts my weary, sleep-deprived brain. How I HATE this cold, cold wind roaring out of the Northeast! It’s fractured my sleep and overwrought my mind!
Yeah, that’s me sinking deep into the winter doldrums, feeling the blues, wobbling through the “dark days”, beaten by the blahs Continue reading » My Winter Heart Rails Against the Wind

Feeling a bit down? Help yourself to some ordinary pleasures and savor them!
I’ve had my share of necessary losses,
Of dreams I know no longer can come true.
I’m done now with the whys and the becauses.
It’s time to make things good, not just make do.
It’s time to stop complaining and pursue
The pleasures of an ordinary life.
Recently I heard a snatch of a lively song that tickled my fancy… and fortunately, I was able to capture the artist and song title. Today I found it on Youtube.com and it set my feet to tapping, got me laughing out loud and dancing a jig in my head. Listen for yourself: Stuck Like Glue by Sugarland. It’s hard to hold on to a bad mood while listening to that tune…
And, once again, a simple pleasure rescues my psyche from the doldrums… Must remember – lively music helps my mood. Here’s another one that lights up the happy in me by the Zac Brown Band, Lil Bit of Chicken Fried:
It’s the simple things in life that mean the most
Not where you live or what you drive or the price tag on your clothes
There’s no dollar sign on a piece of mind this I’ve come to know.

In this wintery month of February, what can you pause to celebrate?
Well, if you expected this to be another post about procrastination then you may be surprised to learn that, ironically, I’ve postponed it – I’d forgotten about Valentine’s Day and couldn’t let the holiday go by without this wee bit of a hurrah. More on procrastination is ready to roll, just not today, nor tomorrow either. Watch for it… and in the meantime, let’s celebrate February!
In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.
— Albert Camus
February’s upon us… and this 2010 version of the second month roared in with the winter madness of an El Nino year – we’ve endured blizzards, rainstorms, floods and mudslides, just to name a few of the weather challenges so far. It’s been a cold, cold winter since the exuberance of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and New Years Day. Some (many?) among us are feeling the winter doldrums. While we wait for spring to be sprung, we need something to Continue reading » What’s to Celebrate? February, of Course!
