Sometimes we have too many plates spinning, too many demands stuffed into too little time and, the next thing we know, we’ve slipped into mindless busyness and something important is on the verge of toppling. Maybe we got into the swing of something, doing and doing until we lapsed into a workaholic-trance. Maybe the abyss of our To-Do-List’s administrivia kept us working, working working. Perhaps deadlines loomed large… Or, perhaps we actually fell under the thrall of an awesome condition known as Flow:

Flow is being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement, and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz.

    — Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

But, regardless of what’s brought us to this brink, we owe it to ourselves to intervene before something important takes a topple! ...Continue reading » Life Lessons 101: Topple Proofing

Once upon a time, as I was preparing to go on vacation, I wrote in my journal: Why is it so hard to let go of my everyday life and take a few days off? I was feeling torn in many directions because I wanted to get so much done before I left and I needed to pack but wasn’t sure what to take along…which is why I wrote: ...Continue reading » On the Verge of Losing My Marbles

This leaves me feeling nauseous – not anyone’s favorite feeling – and miserable and achy. The only good side to it is that I lose my appetite. Unfortunately, this is probably the one time I need to eat – to rebalance my system. To not waste time. The saying comes from farming communities. There would often be only a short time in which the hay would be ready to cut – reap too soon, and the hay would be too green. Reap too late, and you run the risk of rain ruining it all.

The lazy, crazy days of summer have evaporated – poof, they’re gone! Bye-bye summer. And now we’re counting down to the end of a decade with these last few months of the year. Oh my.
September = Time for a Fresh Start?
