Wacky Wednesday #44 – Are You Taking the Day Off for This National Holiday?

The most often voiced complaint about writing a blog is the difficulty coming up with new topics to write about.  Being a blog about resilience, we know that having a good laugh is good for keeping your spirits up and helps you face the day.  In that spirit, we offer the following.

This week the God of Prose smiled down and dropped a big, juicy plum in our lap.  Today, March 20th, 2013 is one of those “special” days.  Why?  Because this week’s Wacky Wednesday post occurs on… wait for it… National Alien Abductions Day!  Perhaps you already knew this, in which case we can only give a tip of our tin-foil hat and wish you a safe and earthbound celebration (kind of puts a different light on “safe and sane” fireworks, don’t it?).

What, you thought alien abductions were the stuff of fantasy?  Why, there’s an entire Wikipedia article on the subject.  And the kind experts over at eHow offer How to Prevent Alien Abductions for those who’ve not already taken precautionary steps.  It should be noted, however, that in the fine print they have this to say:

Since many people do not remember actually being abducted by aliens, or have only fragmented memories, it is hard to measure the effectiveness of prevention techniques. You should use the methods that work best for you.

But the unanswered question that springs to our mind is this: who declared today National Alien Abductions Day?  Surely the folks at Hallmark took a pass on this one.  It’s one thing to create and print hundreds of thousands of cards for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparent’s Day, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Earth Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, etc., etc., but could there really be a market for National Alien Abductions Day?

We did find one enterprising individual who cared not one whit about the legitimacy of the holiday, so long as it provided a vehicle for advertising:

Five Homes Near UFO Hotspots

So enjoy the holiday, but if you are abducted do try to get returned by midnight — after all, tomorrow’s a work day.
