To love is to risk not being loved in return. To hope is to risk pain. To try is to risk failure, but risk must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.

Recently I received the following story in an email.  I don’t know who wrote it as it wasn’t attributed to anyone when I received it.  If you know who wrote it, please let us know.

I dreamt that I went to Heaven and an angel was showing me around. We walked side-by-side inside a large workroom filled with angels. My angel guide stopped in front of the first section and said, “This is the Receiving Section. Here, all petitions to Continue reading » From Gratitude Comes Hope

How are those resolutions going?  Do you, like me, need a fresh start, a new beginning in order to persist in reaching your goals?

Life never presents us with anything which may not be looked upon as a fresh starting point, no less than as a termination.

Monday Morning

It’s Monday morning and I’m dressed, ready to go out for my walk – yet here I am, writing this post instead.  Lately it’s been a challenge to get myself out for my morning walk.  And an even tougher task to eat in ways that cause me to shed pounds.

Not too long ago I was cruising along doing both with ease.  No such luck now.  I can come up with every excuse in the book for not going out first thing in the morning.  And my sweet-tooth plagues me.

This has GOT to turn around.  Now would be a good time.  I need a fresh start at this losing weight and getting fit stuff.  I’m barely holding my own here.  And it’s waaaaaay too soon to be in maintenance mode.

Could writing this post serve as Continue reading » Begin Again

Friends are born, not made.

— Henry B. Adams

Last Wednesday, my friend, Teri, was run over by a car – literally.  It was, in the classic definition of the word, an accident.  The driver and the victim knew each other.  They live just down the street from each other.  Part of the cause of the accident was assuming and the other part was hurry.

The car was parked in the driveway.  Teri saw that her neighbor was in the car, the engine was on and she saw the driver check behind her.  Teri assumed that the driver saw her and that the driver wouldn’t pull out quickly, so she walked behind the car.

The driver was in a hurry.  She looked behind her, saw nothing in her path and gunned the engine – she was running late.  POW!!  Teri was Continue reading » Rescued by an Instant Support System – Just Add Trouble

No matter what the challenge, it helps to have a fail-safe, a good and reliable fallback – tell us about yours!

A potluck is a gathering of people where each participant is expected to bring a dish of food to be shared among the group.

Some things in life are a given. And one of those is the infamous potluck.  A potluck meal, like an old fashioned barn-raising, converts a gargantuan task into a manageable and shared endeavor.  And, potlucks often feature some delicious, truly gourmet efforts from committed, creative foodies.  But for us non-foodies who think Costco makes the BEST potluck entries ever, there’s the cringe factor – when the office (bunko, gab-fest, book club, block party, family) potluck announcements go out, we face a dilemma: Continue reading » Sometimes You Just Need a Fail-Safe

Joy is the feeling of grinning inside.

— Melba Colgrove

As I continue with my Lenten practice of listening to 15 minutes of a book on spiritual development every day, I came across an interesting idea.  John Ortberg in The Life You’ve Always Wanted points out that it is a serious responsibility that we find joy in life.  Although I’ve heard this before – I have listened to this book – for some reason, I didn’t notice it when I listened before.

This is the author who wrote about the Dee Dah Day, which I remember fondly for the lesson it taught me – be in the moment NOW!  Yet somehow, I missed the larger point – God wants me to be joyful.  Boy, have I got Continue reading » Rejoice and Be Glad
