No one ever died from sleeping in an unmade bed. I have known mothers who remake the bed after their children do it because there is a wrinkle in the spread or the blanket is on crooked. This is sick.

One of the advantages of working from your home is that you don’t necessarily adhere to a fixed schedule. This allows for a degree of flexibility that can be wonderful but also can allow things to get out of hand. With things being so busy, I’ve been working a lot on weekends and not quite getting to the cleaning chores.
To put this in perspective, you need to understand that I live in a zoo. With the new kitten, the existing dog, the fish and the other cat, it sometimes feels as if I live to serve… them! The kitten is wonderful and he requires a lot of attention. In the last month since we adopted him, he’s gone from 1 lb. 6 ozs to 3 lbs 2 ozs, more than double in size. This means that he can now get into stuff he couldn’t get into before and it’s a constant battle to keep him – and my stuff – safe.
With all the various animals, the pet hair, food and dust is getting to be overwhelming. So, I’ve decided that I need Continue reading » All I Want for Now is a Clean House

We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.

It struck me after I’d posted NOT the Only One, that I’d missed one of the REALLY important benefits of sharing our stories – not only do we get to dodge the bullets that others have taken, we also can be inspired by their successes! Often the path before us is strewn with obstacles, and it’s easy for us to lose sight of the opportunities almost within our grasp. That’s where other people’s stories can spur us on, give us the confidence to begin, the confidence to carry on. For instance, if you’ve ever considered picking up your camera and getting Continue reading » Inspiring Confidence with Stories, Stages and Shakkei

This week we celebrate our national Thanksgiving holiday. Earlier this week I savored our connections with each other’s stories. I rejoiced, if you will, in the fact that we can “learn by listening” instead of “learn by doing” aka, “learn by messing up”. Thanks to other people sharing their stories, we can hope to navigate around known potholes and plot perhaps a smoother path to success. So I’m thankful we can borrow other people’s solutions.
Moodling About Shakkei
Today I’d like to thankfully moodle Continue reading » Borrowed Mountains

With confidence, you can reach truly amazing heights; without confidence, even the simplest accomplishments are beyond your grasp.

As I sat down to think about what I should write today, I asked myself, “Self, what seems to be most lacking these days?” And into my head came “confidence.” If you don’t follow “the market” you may not be aware that there are certain statistics that are tracked weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly. And when the market runs – up or down – it is often the result of one of these statistics.
These days the market is obsessed with the strength of the consumer. 70% of the business that occurs in the United States is you and I buying products and services. When we decide that we’re going to stop spending and start saving or pay off our credit cards, the overall amount of money going into the economy shrinks. When you and I are no longer spending, Continue reading » Living with Confidence

What are your stories and how can you extend the gift of hope to others who are struggling?
The wonderful thing about Tiggers, is Tiggers are wonderful things. Their tops are made out of rubber. Their bottoms are made out of springs. They’re bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy. Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun. But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers is – I’m the only one!
Last week while visiting the maternity floor of our local hospital, I delighted in the joyful whispers and grins of new grandparents, the anxious and weary exchanges of new moms & dads, the lusty squalling of new babes, and the quiet calm of nurses dispensing words of wisdom.
And, after rejoicing that I didn’t have to take any of these bundles of joy home to my house, I indulged in a little nostalgia and recalled the sheer terror I felt (four decades ago) knowing that very soon the little mysterious babe in my arms would depend on me for her daily needs. Inadequate doesn’t begin to describe my sense of self.
And then a nurse’s murmur brought me out of my reverie as she said, “All mothers… Continue reading » NOT the Only One!
