With apologies to the poetry aficionados frequenting the BouncebackCafe, I’m offering up an amateur knock-off on the Spoon River Anthology… one of my “what-the-hey” runs at an assignment from my creative writing class. This is my tongue-in-cheek spoof at my Convent School Education experience. All names have been changed to protect the guilty! And, yes, smoking is so NOT PC (Politically Correct) – a regretted and long-since discarded addiction. It’s hard to believe that my high school class is rapidly approaching our 50th reunion. (Ye gads, my age is showing!) I wonder how many of us still smoke. C’est la vie! (For those of us who took Latin instead of French, say lah VEE] Life goes on…

Do cheerful people make you crazy? My neighbor, Janice was born cheerful. Like everyone else she has bad days, but overall she’s a cheerful person. She comes by it naturally. Her mother, Joy, is a naturally cheerful person too. They’re not necessarily conscious of it, but when faced with adversity, these two explore the possibilities and execute a plan. They know that not everything can be fixed and they also know that expecting a positive outcome helps them create a positive outcome.

This weekend I learned something very important about myself. Although I’m a tough broad, when I get discouraged, I back away from things that I can’t figure out. No doubt my friends and family could already tell you that, but I FINALLY got it this weekend. It came in the form of working on “the business.”
Having officially launched our blog, Ellie and I now have to find ways to get lots more people to come read it. Because the internet is world wide – as in World Wide Web (www) – there is the potential to reach out to people throughout the English speaking world. Every time someone searches they get page after page of stuff, so the challenge is figuring out how to help people find us more easily. We’re still learning about how to reach the people who will care about what we have to say.

OK – so you’re worried. Your last effort didn’t work out the way you’d hoped. You’re back to square one. Now what??? This last of five optimistic approaches to unfuddling your brain will help you figure it out.
Martha Beck, Life Coach advises: If you make the wrong choice – Try Som’n Else. When you’re beset by too many “what ifs” in your life, Try Som’n Else.
Right now, (or later if you must) take pen and paper, find a comfy, quiet place to sit and write, perhaps put some upbeat music on your i-Pod and start brainstorming as many “som’n else” ideas as you can think of. And remember, the secret to brainstorming is to write down EVERYTHING… even the bad ideas.

Ask anyone from the Greatest Generation and they will tell you, WWII was a team effort. People sacrificed. They bought war bonds. Women worked in factories – something they had never done before. People planted victory gardens. There was focus on what everyone could do to contribute. I wanted to be part of our current effort – not so much as a strike against an enemy, but as a supportive action for our military personnel.
